Pensions - Things To Consider When Shopping For A Personal Pension
The first thing you should do when
shopping for a personal pension is to do a bit reasearch and read up a bit on pensions so
you know what kind of pensions are available and have some idea what your requirements are
and what kind of pension you are looking to get. The next thing you should consider doing
is getting advice from several authorised advisers so you can compare what they say and
get as much information as possible. Before you do this it is a good idea to collate all
of your personal information that you may need to help make assessments of your current
pension situation such as information you have about your employer's pension, a current
payslip and a forecast of your state pension.
When dealing with advisors, make sure you
screen out those that do not ask you many questions before offering recomendations to you
as they cannot make quality recommendations without knowing your personal circumstances.
It is a good idea to ask the adviser if they charge you fees and what commissions they
will get. Make sure you read all the literature that you are given so that you understand
it and if you have any questions don' t be afraid to ask the adviser who is there to help
you. Also make sure you get everything in writing and that you keep that information
collated for future reference. Finally try not to give money directly to an adviser, it is
best to make cheques payable to the plan provider. Do this even if you have to write
several cheques for all the plan providers that you may need.
